Product Overview – How it Works

In a world that is becoming increasingly driven by technology, Telematics is a word you are likely to hear more and more often.  Telematics refers to a method of capturing and processing driving data. At the moment, it is commonly used for pricing insurance in a way that promotes better driving.  It also helps the insurance company make engagements with the customer around happy events such as being recognised for a good driving score or when redeeming accumulated loyalty points.

If you have a telematics policy, you are effectively sharing your driving data with the insurance company.  The insurance company evaluates the data to determine how good a driver you are.  By analysing, when, where and how you drive, you get a truly personalised pricing for your motor insurance.  A telematics device, which is fitted in your car, is probably the best known way of capturing this data. Other ways are also available.  Mobile phones can be used for telematics and other devices can easily be plugged in the lighter socket or other ports of the car.  The device is able to capture a lot of data that is useful to both the insurance company and the driver.

With a telematics insurance policy for example, you will get a customised dashboard that helps you trace your journey and receive feedback on your driving style. You will also receive tips on how to improve your driving style and hnce your driving score. With this information, you are better placed to become a better driver and eventually reduce your insurance cost.

There is also a great scope of other useful functions.  Your device also alerts the insurance company in case of an accident so that they can send road side assistance in case it is needed.
